“We drove them out of France and they withdrew right up to Nijmegen...we were in a field checking equipment...and all of a sudden we had the order to move and make for Nijmegen...the airbourne and landed and we had to get up there and give support.

“We went to a place where the Americans had landed. Some of the troops were still in the gliders...never had a chance (they) came down into a hillside.

“When we went over we had our best suits (with us)...Montgomery was so confident that we would win that he ordered that all best suits be taken for the victory parade in Berlin. (But) we were short of supplies at Nijmegen...when we did eventually get the airbourne out, we had to hand over all our equipment...”
